Privacy Policy

Last updated: 17 May 2026

BANA is built privacy-first for children and families. This page explains, in plain language, what the app does and does not do with data.

Who we are

BANA is a privacy-first routine app for children and families. For privacy questions, contact us at privacy@buildinganewaim.com.

Age range

BANA is designed for children ages 3 to 13+. The app is built to be safe and appropriate for this age group, with content written for early readers and tap targets sized for small fingers.

What we collect — nothing personal

BANA does not ask for names, emails, phone numbers, accounts, or any other personal information to use the app.

Everything you see in BANA is created and managed by a parent on the device:

  • Routines and steps you build
  • Child profile name and avatar (entered by you, never transmitted)
  • Progress, points, achievements, check-ins
  • Photos and videos you attach to routines
  • Voice instructions you record

All of this stays on the device.

On-device storage only

All app data is stored locally on the device using the device’s own storage. There is no cloud sync, no online account, and no BANA server that receives your data. Two parents who install BANA on two devices see two completely separate sets of data — by design.

If you uninstall the app, the data on that device is removed by your operating system. If you reset the app via Settings → Data → Clear all data, the data is removed immediately.

No cloud backup

Android’s automatic cloud backup is explicitly disabled for BANA. Your child’s data — routines, points, photos, voice clips — cannot be uploaded to Google Drive or any cloud service through device backup. If you want to move data between devices, you can do so manually via Settings → Data → Export to JSON.

Device permissions

BANA may request the following permissions. You can revoke any of them at any time in your device’s system settings.

  • Camera — to let parents capture a child profile photo or record a short video instruction inside the app. Photos and videos are stored on the device only and are never uploaded.
  • Microphone — to let parents record voice instructions to play during a routine. Recordings are stored on the device only.
  • Photos / Storage — to let parents pick existing images or videos from the device gallery.
  • Notifications — optional, only used to remind your family about a routine you scheduled. You can turn this off in BANA’s Settings or in the device’s system settings at any time.

BANA does not request location, contacts, calendar, SMS, phone, or any other sensitive permission.

Analytics — off by default

Optional, anonymous usage analytics are disabled by default until a parent explicitly turns them on in Settings → Privacy.

When enabled, analytics:

  • Never include personal information of any kind
  • Never include advertising identifiers (Google Advertising ID and Android SSAID collection are explicitly disabled in the app)
  • Never include the content of your routines, names, photos, or voice recordings
  • Are always disabled in debug builds
  • Can be turned off at any time from the same Settings screen

If you have analytics enabled and change your mind, simply toggle it off — no further action is required.

Crash reporting

If the app crashes and a report is sent, it contains technical diagnostics only (stack trace, app version, device model) and is never tagged with any user, child, or device identifier.

Children’s privacy

BANA is designed to align with:

  • COPPA (United States — Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act)
  • GDPR-K (European Union — children’s protections under the GDPR)
  • Google Play Families Policy
  • CCPA (California — Consumer Privacy Act)

No behavioural advertising, no third-party tracking, no data sale — ever.

Because BANA does not collect, use, or disclose any personal information from children, no verifiable parental consent is required under COPPA. All in-app content is created and managed by a parent on their own device.

Your rights as a parent

You can review, export, or delete your child’s data at any time, directly inside the app:

  • Review or export your data: Settings → Data → Export to JSON
  • Delete all data on this device: Settings → Data → Clear all data
  • Reset one child’s data only: Children → Edit child → Danger zone → Reset this child
  • Disable analytics: Settings → Privacy → Analytics
  • Disable notifications: Settings → Notifications, or your device’s system settings

If you would like further assistance with a privacy request — including any rights granted by GDPR, CCPA, or other laws (access, correction, deletion, portability) — email privacy@buildinganewaim.com and we will respond within 30 days.

Third-party services we use

BANA uses a small, transparent set of third-party services:

ServiceWhat it doesWhat data it sees
Google Firebase AnalyticsAnonymous usage analytics, only if a parent opts inAnonymous events (e.g., “routine_started”) — never personal info, content, or identifiers
Google Firebase CrashlyticsCrash reports to help us fix bugsTechnical diagnostics only — never tagged with user or child identifiers
MailerLite (this website only)Manages the launch waitlist on buildinganewaim.comOnly the email address you submit to the waitlist form — see the MailerLite privacy policy

None of these services receive your routines, child profiles, photos, voice recordings, or any content created in the app.

The waitlist on this website

If you submit your email on buildinganewaim.com, it is processed by MailerLite on our behalf, used only to send you a single launch announcement, and is never sold, shared, or linked to any in-app data.

You can unsubscribe from the waitlist at any time using the link in any email we send you.

Data retention

In-app data is retained on the device until you delete it via in-app Settings, uninstall the app, or reset the device. We do not retain copies anywhere else because we do not receive any.

Waitlist email addresses are retained by MailerLite until you unsubscribe or until 12 months after launch (whichever comes first), at which point we remove them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as BANA evolves. The current version is always available at buildinganewaim.com/privacy. Material changes will be announced in-app before they take effect.
